"Truth, justice, and the American way"

Do you remember the old Superman T.V. show from the early days of television? In the introduction to the show, Superman was said to fight for "truth, justice, and the American way." Life sure seemed a lot easier back then. We at least knew what we were supposed to be fighting for. After watching some of the Senate confirmation hearings concerning Judge Brett Kavanaugh, I wondered if many of those senators had any concept of "truth, justice, and the American way." I even wondered if they had ever been exposed to s civics class, as I was in the ninth grade.
Proverbs 6:16-19 says, "These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination [A thing that causes disgust or hatred] to Him [God]: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that divides wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren." I think many senators, as well as the mainstream media, pretty much hit most, if not all, of these abominations before God.
As I said, Superman fought for "truth, justice, and the,American way." Let's talk about the first two -- truth and justice. Truth and justice go hand in hand. Take away truth and there can be no justice. Many of the senators and the media who claimed they were passionate to discover the truth, ignored a mountain of factual evidence and focused solely on the emotion of the moment and that was no accident.
Psychoanalyst Walter Langer said, "People will believe the big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it." Too many in our society have either lost or never learned the ability to think critically, and are easy prey to shameless demagogues with evil motives. The shameless demagogues, some of which are sitting in judgement at these hearings, never did care about the truth. They pose as champions of morality, when in fact, many of them are morally bankrupt themselves. They are hypocrites of the highest order.
One definition of hypocrite is "a person who claims to have higher moral standards than is the case." Several senators it the bill as well as a great many in the mainstream media. Truth left the station long ago. Where is Superman when you need him? We need someone to fight right now for "truth, justice, and the American way."
So what is "the American Way " that needs to be defended? Just this: it used to be said that in the American system of justice, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. Unfortunately, that is not how it works anymore. That's evident by the kangaroo court we witnessed in the recent hearings. Now that we live in an age where emotionalism trumps facts, to be accused is to be guilty automatically. So much for due process of law! Instead of guilt by association, we guilt by accusation and that is as un-American as it gets.
One of our main political parties should have it's motto "The ends justify the means, " or "whatever it takes." They are ruthless power-seekers who are willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve their goals. The only time they uphold the law is when it is to their advantage to do so. They have as their accomplice the mainstream media. Both fit the previously given definition of hypocrite. George Swinnock has said, and rightly so, "Hypocrisy is the loudest lie." They are about to shatter our eardrums.
It is absolutely sickening to see hypocrisy of government leaders and the media holding the good of a nation hostage as they pose as the arbiters of all that is good and decent. Like Superman, we need all decent and fair-minded Americans to stand up for and defend truth that is based on facts rather than emotion, Justice that is worthy of the name, and the American way that is based on due process of law and fairness rather than accusation and innuendo. God help us if we don't. Our nation is in a downward spiral. It is up to us, with the help of God's, to pull it out.
Dishonesty and identity politics is the problem, not the solution. It's long past time that some senators and the media showed some integrity for a change and stopped acting like they are God's gift to us all-- for the good of the nation. And it's definitely long past time that we started holding them accountable and voting some of them out. Call them and let them know that this disgraceful performance, this travesty of justice and this lie, are not acceptable.
"Truth, justice, and the American way" are much more important than one's political ideology, but if you are going to make it about ideology, at least have the guts not to play the hypocrite and act like you care about "truth, justice, and the American way." God help us all.
